Here For You

Let Us Help
At The Calming Center, we help you reach your goals and improve your mental health. You don’t have to figure this out alone. Our counselors are here, ready to support you in the way you need.
We Can Help
Anxiety
Feeling like your brain doesn’t have an “off” switch, constantly worrying, and overthinking are hallmarks of anxiety. Experience relief and peace of mind through counseling.
Depression
Depression is a diagnosable mental health condition with symptoms including apathy, feelings of hopelessness or sadness, loss of interest or pleasure in activities, thoughts of suicide, too much or not enough sleep, fatigue, and social isolation.
Substance Abuse
A physical dependence on drugs and/or alcohol, strong ongoing urges to use drugs and/or drugs despite facing severe consequences are key parts of a substance use disorder. Counseling can help you manage triggers so you can live your life without drugs and/or alcohol.
Adjustment & Transitions
A significant change to everyday life can create challenges that are difficult to manage. Moving to a new town, marriage/divorce, having children, starting a new job/losing a job, and academic transitions are just a few examples. Adapting to changes requires mental flexibility, even when the change is positive.
Eating Concerns, Self-Esteem, & Body Image
Nearly 1 in 10 people in the U.S. struggle with an eating disorder at some point in their lives. Recovering from an eating disorder requires professional help to manage obsessive thoughts and behaviors and then replace them with healthy ones.
Grief & Loss
Grief is our natural response to loss. Grief encompasses a range of emotions like sadness, anger, and guilt. The grief process can become problematic if it is negatively affecting your physical and mental wellbeing.
LGBTQIA+
People who identify as part of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQIA+) community are more likely to experience mental health conditions and/or have adverse experiences that negatively affect their mental health.
ADHD
ADHD symptoms make it difficult to complete everyday tasks — both in childhood and as an adult. Chronic lateness, disorganization, and difficulty finishing tasks are just a few problematic symptoms. ADHD counseling can help you understand how ADHD affects you and how you can successfully manage ADHD behaviors.
Relationships (include non-traditional)
Unhealthy relationship dynamics, broken trust, and ineffective communication are just a few signs your relationship is in trouble. While couples counseling is often used to address these types of problems, it can also be helpful at any stage of a relationship. Couples counseling can strengthen relationships through increased understanding and improved communication.
Women's Issues
Women face enormous pressure, making it challenging to feel balanced and confident. Difficulties can arise in pregnancy, post-partum, aging. Also, juggling endless tasks, facing a never ending to-do list can leave women feeling anxious, unfulfilled, and depressed.
Trauma
Trauma can occur as a result of a singular event or from repeated/ongoing exposure to a traumatic situation. It can cause many problems, from disrupted sleep patterns, nightmares, nausea, to panic attacks, addiction, and suicidal thoughts. Counseling can help you stabilize these feelings and rebuild peace within yourself.

Michelle Hawks, LCMHCA
I am accepting new clients and am excited to be here and grateful for this opportunity to sit with you in this space. There is a quote found at Healthplace.com, I want to share with you, "Mental health is not a destination but a process. It is about how you drive, not where you're going." I provide an authentic, compassionate, and safe space for my clients and love seeing my clients reach their goals and achieve success. If you are looking for a non-judgmental, empathetic therapist to help you with those driving challenges, I would love to hear from you. Are you and your partner struggling to communicate? I work with couples, traditional and non-traditional, to improve their communication and strengthen their relationship.
